The University Libraries at the American University of Beirut (AUB) has an opening for the position of Research and Instruction Library Assistant , in grade 12. I. Basic Functions:
Performs reference and user services in the library. - Very good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Very good knowledge of Arabic and English; other languages desirable.

The University Libraries’ Collection Management Division is currently looking for a Library Archives Manager reporting to the Director of Collection Management. This position is based on Beirut campus with occasional commuting to Byblos campus.
Role Summary
The Library Archives Manager is mainly responsible for defining and administering the execution of the vision and mission of the Archives Unit with a special focus on strategic decisions, thus making LAU Libraries’ special collections, research output, and archival materials with long-term historical value publicly accessible.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops and implements departmental and collections policies and procedures for the acquisition, processing, preservation, and access to archival collections and scholarly materials in the institutional repository
- Coordinates the digitization process of archival and manuscript collections and recommends and implements records reformatting, indexing, and delivery solutions
- Manages disaster plans and offsite storage of materials
- Manages the appraisal and acquisition of new collections and scholarly materials
- Oversees the LAU Repository, and collaborates with faculty and researchers to promote the deposit of scholarly materials in the institutional repository
- Establishes smooth relations with the different constituents of the University
- Develops workflows to manage the capture, description, and preservation of the institutional repository outputs, and initiates contact with individual academics and research groups in the institution to identify their needs from the repository and develop their involvement in it
- Sets up test collections and user satisfaction surveys to evaluate the service and report on findings where appropriate
- Keeps abreast of developments in archival standards and trends, applying new rules, interpretations, and techniques as appropriate
- Supervises and trains staff and volunteers involved in processing, preserving, and providing access to archival collections and scholarly materials
- Researches and responds to copyright and ownership issues
- Coordinates with key administrative offices to insure proper archiving of LAU’s history
- Establishes smooth relations with the different constituents of the University
- Assists in identifying and scouting grants opportunities, along with developing proposals within a team setting
- Promotes the use of archival collections and scholarly materials by students, faculty, and researchers
- Maintains knowledge of current trends, best practices, and standards in the archival and institutional repository professions
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as required
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Master degree, preferably in Archives and Records Management, History, Art History, Preservation, or Library and Information Science
- Minimum 8 years of work experience in an archives role within an academic institution, museum, or similar institution with at least 3 years of supervisory duties
- Strong knowledge of archival principles, practices, and standards
- Excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills, including the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of Institutional Repositories systems
- Knowledge of metadata description
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Willingness to take initiative
- Ability to work under pressure and in a team environment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
